Avoid unwanted cropping with the tips below

Photos Taken with your smartphone

Smartphone images may have different formats, particulary if these are processed with apps. ALDI Photos prints the images in the basic setting with variable image lengths. This means that all of the image content is shown but the image length may vary for each photo. If the images are for use in photo albums or frames, the ratio should be switched to classical (2:3). It should be noted here that the image is cropped in such a way that parts of the image are no longer shown on the photo and for example heads may be “cut off”. You can avoid this by setting the crop as you wish in the editor before ordering.

Photos from single-lens reflex or system cameras

Images from these cameras are normally in the classical format (aspect ratio 2:3). To use the images for a photo album or frame, you should retain the aspect ratio (2:3). This shows all of the image content and the images fit precisely into the frame.

Classic 2:3 image section

The classic image format is usually used for picture frames and photo albums (with photo flaps or photo corners). The photos you order at ALDI Photos are adjusted automatically to the paper size. If the aspect ratio of your image file is not 2:3, the photo will be automatically enlarged until there are no white edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off (scissors icon: Edit image section).

To prevent white edges from occurring during the exposure, the image section is enlarged by up to three percent before exposure (over projection).

  • 6" format 4.01 x 6.02"
  • 7" format 5 x 7.2"
  • 12" format 7.9 x 12"

Digital 3:4 image section

The photos you order at ALDI Photos are adjusted automatically to the paper size. If the aspect ratio of your image file is not 3:4, the photo will be automatically enlarged until there are no white edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off (scissors icon: Edit image section).

To prevent white edges from occurring during the exposure, the image section is enlarged by up to three percent before exposure (over projection).

  • 6" format: 4.01 x 5.3"
  • 7" format 5 x 6.6"
  • 12" format 7.9 x 10.6"

Variable image length / no cropping (default setting)

The photos you order at ALDI Photos are adjusted automatically to the paper size. If the aspect ratio of your image file is not 3:4, the photo will be automatically enlarged until there are no white edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off (scissors icon: Edit image section).

To prevent white edges from occurring during the exposure, the image section is enlarged by up to three percent before exposure (over projection).

Depending on the aspect ratio of your image file, this will give variable paper size (image length) within certain limits:

Photo Prints 9er Format from approx. 3.5" x 3.5" to the maximum of approx. 3.5" x 6.3"
Photo Prints 10er Format from approx. 4.01" x 4.01" to the maximum of approx. 4.01" x 7"
Photo Prints 13er Format from approx. 5" x 5"  to the maximum of approx. 5" x 8.3"
Photo Prints 20er Format from approx. 8" x 8" to the maximum of approx. 8" x 12"

Additional information:

Over projection
When preparing your image file, you should bear in mind that up to three percent of the image/image section will be cropped and thus not visible on the print. This can be particularly important, for example, if you add lettering to the edge of the picture.
